In case you end up damaging the surface you will need concrete floor polishing. Normally you will need this service every 2 or 3 years. So, how can you ensure that you don’t need this extra cost before time?

Let’s learn everything about polished concrete floors.

Set Cleaning and Maintenance Schedule

Your cleaning schedule for concrete floors will depend on the amount of foot traffic. If it is a busy area you will need to clean it often. For example, an office dining area is always busy so it will need regular sweeping or mopping.

Moreover, places like house entrances, stores, and shopping malls require regular cleaning. It is recommended to sweep busy places at least twice a day. Since It can keep the floor in good shape even if many people are walking on it.

Use the Right Cleaning Agents and Tools

You can damage your floor if you don’t use the right tools and cleaning agents. That will add extra cost for concrete floor polishing to your budget. So, ensure that you use only the right tools for cleaning.

Which Tools Should You Use?

For manual cleaning, you can choose a dust mop made of soft microfibers. It can wipe away dirt with ease without damaging the polish of your floor. We are not recommending regular mops as they are harsh and can damage your floor’s surface.

Moreover, if you are using a machine to mop the floor, use one with soft and non-abrasive pads. You can find two kinds of pads that are white and soft beige. White pads are softer and good for glossy floors. While soft beige pads are best for floors with sensitive surfaces.

Recommended Cleaning Agents

Whenever you are buying a cleaning agent, ensure that it has a neutral pH formulation. As it can help you easily remove the dirt.

Pro Tip: Never let the solution dry on the surface as it can discolor your concrete floor.

How to Keep Concrete Floor Clean?

Dust Mop Regularly

Dust mop your floor daily to get rid of dirt. It is crucial since particles like dirt, sand, and grit can act as an abrasive to your floor and ruin its polished surface.

Pro Tip: Use a micro-fibre pad to ensure that you remove even the tiniest dust particles

Wet Mopping

It is recommended to mop your floor at least once a week.

Always use clean water and clean mops for wet mopping your concrete floor. For smaller areas, a bucket and a mop can do the job for you. However, for larger areas, you can get an automatic floor scrubber. Just ensure that the machine you are using has non abrasive pads.

Cleaning Agent

Use only a neutral cleaning agent for wet mopping. It will help you get rid of the dust particles without damaging the floor. However, don’t let it dry on your floor as it may also act against the surface of the floor.

Immediately Clean Spills and Stains

Don’t let the spills or stains rest on the ground, clean it as soon as possible.  If they are left on the surface for a long time they can damage the polish of your floor. Some harmful stains on the floor include fruit juices, oils, soft drinks, urine, and wine.

What to Avoid to Keep Concrete Floors Clean?

High-pH Cleaning Agents

Avoid using any cleaning agent that is acidic or alkaline on the pH scale. Also, if you are a DIY person don’t use bleach, vinegar, ammonia, citrus, or hydrochloric acid to mop your floor. Since these products can discolor your concrete floor. So, stay on the safe side and only use pH-neutral cleaners.

Rubber Products

If you don’t want to spend time on concrete floor polishing before time, avoid using rubber products. Since rubber products can leave permanent marks on the surface impacting the grace of your floor. As an alternative, you can opt for felt floor protectors.

Vacuum and Steam Cleaners

It is not recommended to use either vacuum or steam cleaners on concrete floors. Because vacuum cleaners are abrasive to the floor’s surface. On the other hand, the steam cleaners trap the dirt inside the floor’s surface instead of cleaning it off.
